The media façade artwork “COUNTDOWN 2025” was unveiled at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), the world’s largest amorphous architectural structure, the piece delivered an immersive poetic countdown experience in the heart of Seoul.
“COUNTDOWN 2025” offered audiences a lyrical and visually impactful reflection on the past year. Before the final 10-second countdown, the artwork brought Korea’s four seasons to life, blending literature from renowned modern Korean poets with digital art to capture each season’s essence. This transformation was realized through kinetic typography, created in collaboration with AG, a typography studio specializing in Hangul (the Korean writing system), and the media art collective VERSEDAY. The text organically flowed along DDP’s curved aluminum panels, dynamically morphing with the shifting seasons to create a rhythmic and emotionally resonant visual narrative.
On New Year’s Eve, 70,000 spectators gathered at DDP in a shared celebration of the new year. By weaving together literature, typography, motion design, and public space, "COUNTDOWN 2025" transformed DDP into a global landmark for art-driven countdown celebrations.
